Sudan: U.S. Invitations Sudanese Armed Forces and Hasty Make stronger Forces to Ceasefire Talks Co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and Switzerland

Washington, DC — At some level of the final 15 months, the horrific struggle in Sudan has pushed thousands and thousands to the brink of hunger and displaced almost 10 million folks.  It continues to region off immeasurable suffering for the Sudanese folks.  The US remains dedicated to working with partners to complete this devastating war.

Building from the earlier Jeddah processes co-facilitated with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the US has invited the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Hasty Make stronger Forces (RSF) to take part in ceasefire talks mediated by the US to originate on August 14, 2024, in Switzerland.  We thank the federal government of Switzerland for offering to host the talks and welcome the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a co-host.  The talks will contain the African Union, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Countries as observers.

The talks in Switzerland plan to achieve a nationwide terminate of violence, enabling humanitarian access to all those in want, and develop a robust monitoring and verification mechanism to construct sure implementation of any agreement.

These talks attain no longer plan to address broader political components.  As the Sudanese folks receive prolonged demanded, Sudan’s governance must return to civilians and civilians must play the leading feature in defining a path of to address political components and restore Sudan’s democratic transition.

The dimensions of loss of life, suffering, and destruction in Sudan is devastating. This mindless struggle must wreck.  The US calls upon the SAF and the RSF to support the talks and way them constructively, with the crucial to construct lives, cease the combating, and construct a path to a negotiated political formulation to the struggle.  We join the Sudanese folks’s calls for peace and a democratic transition, and we speed the events to cease the combating for the sake of a brighter future for Sudan.
